The Millimetre Wave Group at St Andrews was established nearly 40 years ago and was one of the very first groups established in the UK working in this area. The EPR part of the Group was established around 25 years ago and soon after became the UK National High Field EPR facility. After consolidation of the National EPR facilities in Manchester, HiPER was then developed as part of the UK Basic Technology programme, and the first modern commercial Bruker pulsed X/Q EPR system was also established in the UK at St Andrews. The HiPER project itself established several new mm-wave technologies that are now used within the radar part of the group. The EPR group is one of the very few in the world that is an integral part of a larger mm-wave technology group, and benefits greatly from the expertise and test equipment shared with mm-wave group members working on radar projects.

There are always open PhD projects for the right candidate, sometimes in collaboration with the group of Dr Janet Lovett (Physics / Biochemistry), and with Dr Duncan Robertson (mm-wave radar and technology). Note there are more funding opportunities for UK citizens. See our Opportunities page for more details.
