Almost all of the research our group carries out involves mm-wave instrumentation. We have designed and constructed, among other projects, in imaging radar/radiometer system for looking at volcanoes (AVTIS), EPR spectrometers, measurement systems for determining the properties of ferrite and dielectric materials and high frequency noise measurement systems for the National Physical Laboratory. The picture below is of an FMCW mm-wave radar system.



We use a mixture of waveguide and quasi-optical techniques to achieve novel solutions and manufacture many components ourselves. Our state-of-the-art quasi-optical Faraday rotators are a key enabling technology for many of our systems, for example the radar shown above and our ESR systems.
