Topography data

Radar surveying trials were successfully carried out upon the existing topography. The topography extraction process is outlined in the local field testing section.

The dataset shown below was taken from a single viewpoint on St Georges Hill with different angular step sizes used for different sections of the volcano (since larger steps cover a larger area in the same time). The coarse resolution scans were made to estimate the volume of pyroclastic flow deposits whereas the crater ridge topography was recorded in finer detail.

Here also is a comparison between the more detailed crater ridge topography data and the only clear view photograph taken of the ridge during the whole field trip. One photograph in three weeks shows the need for an all-weather instrument!
