Radiometric data

Radiometric temperature imaging was also attempted for the first time. Unfortunately, technical problems with electronic interference from the mechanical motors severely degraded image quality. The image shown below has been heavily averaged to remove the interference: the temperature scale is uncalibrated and arbitrary although the effective temperature resolution has been estimated at around 20K.

Despite these problems, the radiometric mode of AVTIS was operational for the first time. This is the first ever passive MMW image of a volcano!

Further development was required before the next deployment in the field.
